Granja to Tábara

A shortish day today - made a bit longer by three Korean pilgrims who were up and rattling around at 6.00am. That induced a bit of a frenzy with everybody out by 6.45 - except me! And the Terminator - an elderly Austrian chap who walks as fast as I do on the flat. I can beat him up hills! Mind you he's 73!

After breakfast in a bar we headed off on a beautiful clear cold morning. In the distance a bank of wind turbines - which the trail ended up passing. Today was 27km through wooded farms and open grain fields.

I'm in Tabara, which had a monastery since the early 700s and was a centre of illumination of manuscripts from very early on. The hospitalero told us they were the first to use colour here 1100 years ago. The Tower is all that remains - rebuilt in Romanesque style. He maintaíns there were 600 monks and nuns in the monastery.

I'm staying in an old style albergue - pay by donation for the bunk with a common meal and the hospitalero also washes ones clothes. The guy does it out of devotion to the Camino and pilgrims. Its great! Except for the snorers!
